Welcome to South Texas Sports
SEA WORLD BABY!
The South Texas Stallions Cheer & Dance teams cleaned house at the Sea World competition in San Antonio.  The All Stars brought home five 1st places, one 2nd place, one High Point Champion plus the highest score of all Cheer teams in all age divisions at the Cheer Power competition.

Walk it Out! The day was started off by twins Deandra and Desiree Garza.  The 5 year Stallion members showcased the routine that they will be taking to Las Vegas in May.  They brought home a 1st place championship for the 3rd time this year.

Welcome to the Jungle. Splits, aerials, leaps and flashy dance was displayed by the trio of Maya, Stacy and Lyric.  The youth prep trio brought home a 1st place in their final competition of the year.

Champions All Year. The Mini Cheer Team were named 1st place Champions every time they competed this year.  San Antonio was no different.  Although it didn't go as smooth as usual, it was still performed strong enough to bring home another championship title.  Everyone threw their tumbling pass without being distracted by not having spring floors.

Cheer Bow Winners.  The Youth Level 2 National Champs did not disappoint.  Not only did they win the championship title, they received Level 2 High Point Champion and were awarded cheer bows for getting the high score of the day.  Not bad for some young horses who pulled this off on regular mats without spring floors.

Mini Hip Hop.  Some of the mini street dancers had already performed twice, so their minds were set on enjoying the park festivities.  The back 2 back National champions did not put on their best performance of the year, and the judges noticed.  They were awarded 2nd place after being named champions throughout the 2007-2008 season.

Youth Hip Hop.  The Youth Hip Hop team got a standing ovation after their performance.  After falling 1 point short at the National competition, the Stallion Soldiers were determined to leave it all out there.  The young team was awarded 1st place champions.

Show Team Cheer.  One of the team members had a last minute emergency to take care of, so last minute adjustments had to be made.   Due to numbers, thigh stands were forced to go up without spotters and they nailed it.  Each member was awarded a trophy.

Show Team Hip Hop.  Just as they did all year the show team street dancers, comprised of three girls and three boys, put on a great show.  The crowd responded with cheers and clapping.  Each member received a trophy.

Look at how good our athletes, parents and staff are.  I could not make it, and you came together and had a great competition day.  How Lucky is the Stallion organization to have such committed and dedicated people?  Extremely lucky!  Congratulations and Thank you for such an awesome competition season!

2008 was great, now its time to shine in 2009.

Stallions at Kingwood
The South Texas Stallions organization sent 2 teams to the Kingwood Classic.  The tournament is the biggest Spring event held and was host to over 600 teams.  The Stallions had representation in the 17's & 15's divisions.  The 17's lost their first game to Oklahoma by 8 and bounced back to beat Georgia Heat by 5.  All 3 teams went 1-1 in pool play.  The Stallions then went on to win its next game before falling by 3 to the New Mexico Tar Heels.  Overall the team went 2 - 2.  Next up the Pearland Classic where the team has been placed in Pool 1.  The 15's went 1 - 3 at the Kingwood Classic. This was the first time for some of these players to compete against this type of competition. If this team stays together and works hard and smart, they will be   very good in the future.  Next up for the 15's is the Pearland Classic.

SHOWCASE

4 RGV athletes took advantage of the Senior Showcase that took place at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. Esteban Arriola, Steven Garcia, Andrew Gonzalez and Neo Sanchez made the trip as well as 140+ seniors from across the state of Texas. Steven and Andrew were placed on the same team while Esteban and Neo were each placed on separate teams. Each team consists of 10 players who are divided by position and each player only plays half the game. As a whole they went 5 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie.  The biggest highlights were in the last game Arriola hit eight 3's and finished with 28 points, while Gonzalez had 5 dunks and finished with 20 points.  All 4 of the athletes impressed the showcase host.  The junior, sophomore and freshmen showcase is coming up.  For more information contact 956-624-9944.

STRONG SHOWING AT SPRING ICE BREAKER
The team made a commitment to take advantage of every opportunity placed in front of them. Many teams attend the Spring Ice Breaker in Houston to see what the team's strengths and weakness' are. The team was placed in Pool A which was a very strong pool. First competitor for the South Texas Stallions was the J.Prince Hoopstars. The Hoopstars have sent around 10 athletes to D1 universities in the past 3 to 4 years. The Stallions who attended the tournament with a seven man line up jumped out early and never looked back. Aggressive style defense and fast pace offense set the tone and were the biggest factors in getting their first win in front of a packed house. The twenty point victory happened in front of various college scouts and recruiting services. Next up for the team was the West Side All Stars. The West Side Team came out extremely aggessive on the defensive end and held on to a lead most of the game. The Stallions kept their composure and hit some big shots down the stretch to win by six. On the last day of competition, the team faced the Southwest Celtics and played well throughout most of the game. It went back and forth but the team fell by four. It was a great tournament to attend. Tournament host Mr. Hicks had over 150 unsigned seniors at the tournament and over 100 teams. He was so impressed by our team, that on Monday night he spoke for about 10 minutes about the Stallions on his talk show. The team was led by Esteban Arriola, Andrew Gonzalez, Neo Sanchez, Chris Martinez, Esai Mirelez, Chris Flores and Cory Pace. Next up Kingwood Classic and Pearland Classic.

NOTE: The South Texas Stallion organization would like to welcome Pat Roth who will be joining Alphonso Gatling and Jamison Holmes to the basketball coaching staff. If you would like to join any of the teams, contact 580-4800 Mon - Thurs from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

BACK 2 BACK Baby!

Some girls moved up or away last year after winning the Power Dance National Title in the Mini Street Dance Category. However six of them stayed, and they along with their new teammates were determined to do it again. The first day of team competition can be so tough since a lot of the Stallion Fly Girls are also individual competitors. That means that they have to report to the warm up area at 6:30 am on Saturday, perform their routines, find out how they placed amongst other individual competitors and then change and get ready for the team competition. The team had a pretty good showing on the first day but so did other teams. After going back and checking the scores on the first night, it showed the Stallion Fly Girls in 1st place by 1 point. At Nationals first day scores count 25% while second day scores count 75% so the team knew they had to come out swinging. And that they did. They were awarded National Champions for the second straight year and with the up and coming talent, they will be going for the 3 Peat in 2009.

A Lesson Learned for our Young Powerful Horses!
Coaches stress it time and time again. The only team you should be trying to compete with is yourself. 3 of the 8 competitors had already competed early on in the day, so they had to regroup quickly and perform the award winning routine. It didn't go as strong as they had performed it in the past, but it was good enough to put the team in second place. The team was behind by six points and knew that if they came out and did the routine the second day with minimal mistakes, the National Championship would be a big possibility. The routine was strong, the dancers are highly skilled in Street Dance but it was just one of those days. And although the energy was way up there, the team did do some mistakes. The team still managed to finish 2nd at Nationals and if 1 of the 5 judges would have just marked 1 more point on the possible 100 points, we would have been National Champions. This speaks volumes about the coaches and the choreography as well as the strength of our young dancers. While most youth teams are dominated by 5th & 6th graders, the Stallion Soldier team is comprised of one 6th grader, two 5th graders, four 4th graders and one 3rd grader.

Athletes - You represented the Company great. Way to go! Everyone shined out there and did exactly what was asked of you. Keep up the good work and don't be satisfied. For those of you going to Las Vegas to represent the Company...Good Luck!

Coaches - What an awesome job you did! 11 routines that you were responsible for and not one was contracted out. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. Can you say 4 Dance National Titles in Street Dance, 3 Runner Up Titles and 3 Third Places.

Parents - Way to conduct yourself at Competition. Remember to always lead by example. An incident happened at the end of competition that I would not wish on any owner, coach or parent. Thank you for always thinking of your children and gymnasium first. And as always way to support the TEAM!
